Hans Peter Wild was born in Heidelberg, Germany, on June 16, 1941. He is the son of Rudolf Wild, the founder of the Wild company. Wild studied law and business administration, attending universities in Heidelberg, Munich, Mannheim, Paris (Sorbonne), and Cambridge. He earned a doctorate in law from the University of Mannheim.

After completing his education, Wild joined his parents' company in 1974. He played a pivotal role in expanding the company's international presence, particularly in the areas of flavors and the Capri-Sun brand. Wild's strategic business moves, including partnerships with KKR and the sale of Wild Flavors to Archer Daniels Midland, solidified his reputation as a savvy entrepreneur. In 1979, he signed boxing world champion Muhammad Ali as an advertising ambassador, transforming the originally German company into an international corporation. He is the owner and chairman of Capri-Sun, a leading global brand in fruit juice drinks.
