Early Life and Education
Guillaume Pousaz was born in Switzerland and displayed an early interest in technology. He began coding at the age of eight. Pousaz studied mathematical engineering at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) from 2000 to 2002 before enrolling in an economics bachelor's degree at HEC Lausanne. He initially planned to become an investment banker.
Rise to Success
Pousaz's career in the payments industry began in 2006 when he joined International Payments Consultants (IPC). He co-founded NetMerchant, a US to Europe money transfer service, in 2006. Recognizing the potential for innovation, he founded Opus Payments in 2009. The company was later rebranded as Checkout.com in 2012. Checkout.com has become a key player in digital payments, delivering high-performance payment solutions to thousands of enterprise merchants globally and processing billions of transactions per year. Checkout.com has grown into a leading global payments platform that serves major international companies like Netflix, Pizza Hut, Sony, and Shein. In January 2022, Checkout.com raised $1 billion from private investors, valuing the company at $40 billion.
