Early Life
Girdhari Jaisinghani was born into a Sindhi family. In 1968, following the death of his father, Thakurdas Jaisinghani, Girdhari, at the age of 16, took over the family business, Sind Electric Stores, a small electrical goods shop in Mumbai's Lohar Chawl. Along with his brothers Inder, Ramesh, and Ajay, they worked to build upon their father's legacy.
Rise to Success
The family decided to expand beyond the retail trading of electrical goods. The turning point came when they decided to focus on manufacturing wires and cables. In 1975, they established Thakur Industries and set up a factory for manufacturing cables and wires. Subsequently, in 1983, the family registered Polycab Industries as a small-scale industrial unit. Under the leadership of his brother Inder Jaisinghani, Polycab has grown to become a major player in the Indian electrical market.
Key Business Strategies
The Jaisinghani brothers, Girdhari, Inder, Ajay, and Ramesh, were instrumental in nurturing and developing the business over the last four decades. Inder Jaisinghani was appointed as the Chairman and Director in 1997 and later reappointed as Chairman and Managing Director in 2019. The company's strategic decisions, along with an increased focus on electrification and infrastructure spending, have contributed to its growth. In 2024, Polycab's market capitalization crossed Rs 1 lakh crore.
Philanthropy
While specific amounts are unavailable, Inder Jaisinghani actively works to uplift socially and economically disadvantaged communities through Polycab's CSR initiatives.
