In 1984, he co-founded Alimentation Couche-Tard (also known for its Circle K chain). He served as the Chief Financial Officer from 1984 to 2008, and then as Chairman of the Board from 2008 to 2011. In March 2019, Couche-Tard's rising share price made Fortin a billionaire.
