Frank Blase was born in Germany. His father, Günter Blase, founded igus in 1964 in a double garage in Cologne-Mülheim. The company started as a supplier of intricate technical plastic components.

Rise to Success

In 1983, Frank Blase began to focus on expanding igus' product line, concentrating on energy chain systems and plastic bearings. He established a separate marketing department to support this growth. From 1985 to 2015, under Frank’s leadership, igus expanded from 40 to over 2,700 staff members distributed all over the world. His strategic vision drove the company's expansion, making igus a global leader in motion plastics. In 2024, Igus developed the world's first bike made from plastic.
