Early Life
Dmitri Bukhman was born on May 27, 1985, in Vologda, Russia. Growing up in modest circumstances, he developed an early interest in programming and computer games. Alongside his brother Igor, he started selling games online while still in high school, which laid the foundation for their future entrepreneurial endeavors.
Rise to Success
In 2004, the Bukhman brothers officially founded Playrix while studying at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics at the Vologda State Pedagogical Institute. Initially, the company focused on casual PC games. By 2007, Playrix had released 16 games and was earning a monthly income of around $300,000. Recognizing the potential of the mobile gaming market, Dmitri and his brother pivoted Playrix's focus to mobile platforms. This strategic move led to the creation of globally acclaimed titles such as Homescapes, Gardenscapes, Fishdom, and Township, propelling Playrix to become a major player in the industry.
Key Business Strategies
Dmitri Bukhman's success is attributed to several key strategies. Firstly, the early adoption of free-to-play mobile games. Secondly, the development of engaging, narrative-driven gameplay. Thirdly, a focus on consistent updates, clever monetization, and effective marketing. Moreover, the strategic acquisitions of other gaming studios helped expand Playrix's portfolio and market reach. Rix Capital family fund was launched in October 2021.
Philanthropy
Dmitri and his wife, Daria, founded Bukhman Philanthropies, a charitable foundation that supports neonatal health, educational access, and environmental conservation. They also back the Bukhman Family Foundation, which funds scientific research into curing type 1 diabetes and supports initiatives for underprivileged youth through arts and tech-based programs.
