Early Life and Education
Christian Chabot was born and raised in the United States. He attended Stanford University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and later an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business. His educational background laid a solid foundation for his future career in the tech industry.
Rise to Success
In 2003, Chabot co-founded Tableau Software with Chris Stolte and Pat Hanrahan. The company was born out of a Stanford University project aimed at improving the ways people see and understand data. Tableau Software offers a range of products that allow businesses to visualize their data, making it easier to interpret and make decisions based on it. As CEO of Tableau, Chabot led the company through a period of significant growth. Under his leadership, Tableau went public in 2013 and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
Key Business Strategies
Chabot's key strategy was to make data visualization accessible to everyone. Tableau's user-friendly interface and focus on aesthetics helped it gain traction in the market. The company raised $15 million in venture capital before taking Tableau public in May 2013. Chabot served as CEO until 2016 and chairman of the board until 2019. Salesforce acquired Tableau in 2019 in a $15.7 billion, all-stock deal.
Philanthropy
After stepping down as CEO of Tableau in 2016, Chabot now focuses most of his time on his two nonprofits: The Holocene Foundation and Washington Neurodiversity Project.
