Early Life and Education
Patrick K. Neal was born in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1949. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Neal also served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1969 to 1975.
Rise to Success
Neal's career took root in 1970 when he founded Neal Communities with his father, Paul Neal. The company's first project was in Whitney Beach, Florida. Over the years, Neal Communities grew, building over 25,000 homes and lots across Southwest Florida. Neal's strategy, which involves buying land ahead of growth, has proven to be highly effective. Neal served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1974-1978 and the Florida Senate from 1978-1986. During his time in office, he focused on environmental protection and co-authored Florida's first wetlands and hazardous waste laws.

Neal Communities has expanded to become one of the largest homebuilders in the Tampa Bay area and a significant private company in the region. The company has adapted to changing market conditions by introducing SimplyDwell Homes, which offers more affordable housing options. Pat Neal is known for his philanthropic endeavors. Over the past decade, Neal and his companies have contributed over $7 million to local community organizations. He was awarded the 2024 Hearthstone BUILDER Humanitarian Award. Neal and his wife, Charlene, have made a $1 million commitment to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County. In 2024, he donated $350,000 to the Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast.
