Early Life
Pat Neal was born on March 4, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up in a middle-class family and developed an entrepreneurial spirit early on, engaging in various ventures from a young age, including lawn mowing and selling detergent. He started a company called Youth Power where he employed local kids for various services. At age 16, he earned more than his mother made as a schoolteacher.
Rise to Success
Neal's career in real estate began when he helped his father develop land. In 1970, he founded Neal Communities with his father Paul Neal. Over the years, the company has built over 25,000 homes in Florida. Neal's approach to business emphasizes controlling his own future by investing in land and reinvesting in the business. His company, Neal Communities, has achieved substantial success in the homebuilding market. He also served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1974 to 1978 and in the Florida Senate from 1978 to 1986.

Neal’s business strategy focuses on building high-quality homes with attention to detail, catering to the middle and upper-middle-income customers. He has been known for his focus on the natural environment within his communities. He has built approximately one out of every eleven homes in Bradenton. Neal Communities has aimed to build homes with greater attention to detail, and a more beautiful look and environment. In 2023, Neal Communities reported $905 million in revenue.
Philanthropy
Pat Neal and his companies have contributed more than $8 million over the past decade to support local community organizations, including the American Cancer Society, the Boys & Girls Clubs, and other non-profits. In 2005, he donated 120 acres of land to Manatee County, which is now the Neal Preserve. He and his wife, Charlene Neal, made a $1 million commitment to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County. Neal was awarded the 2024 Hearthstone BUILDER Humanitarian Award for his exemplary environmental stewardship.
