Early Life
Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, on September 23, 1949. He spent his childhood in Freehold Borough, New Jersey. His father, Douglas Springsteen, worked as a bus driver, and his mother, Adele Ann (née Zerilli), was a legal secretary. Springsteen's early life was influenced by his working-class upbringing and his Catholic faith. He attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Freehold. He attended Freehold High School and graduated in 1967.
Rise to Success
Inspired by Elvis Presley and The Beatles, Springsteen began his musical journey at a young age. He purchased his first guitar at 13 and started playing in bands in the mid-1960s. In 1972, he signed with Columbia Records and formed the E Street Band. His first two albums, Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle, gained critical acclaim. He achieved worldwide fame with the release of Born to Run in 1975.
Subsequent albums like Darkness on the Edge of Town (1978), The River (1980), and Born in the U.S.A. (1984) solidified his status as a rock icon. Born in the U.S.A. became his most commercially successful album, selling 30 million copies worldwide.
