Early Life
Balkrishan Gopiram Goenka, known as BK or BKG, was born in 1966 in Hisar, Haryana, India. He grew up in a Marwari family involved in the food grain trade and later moved to Delhi. At the age of 16, he joined his father's business. Goenka completed his schooling and later traveled to London to gain insights into trading.
Rise to Success
In 1985, Goenka relocated to Mumbai and co-established a textile plant with his maternal uncle. That same year, he founded Welspun, initially manufacturing polyester yarn. Under his leadership, the company expanded into home textiles, with a focus on exports. Welspun became a publicly listed company in 1991 and was later renamed Welspun India Limited. Goenka has been instrumental in the growth and diversification of Welspun World, which has expanded into various sectors, including home textiles, steel pipes, and infrastructure. He has also been the recipient of Asian Business Leadership (ABLF) Award, 2019.

Goenka's business acumen is demonstrated by his ability to identify and capitalize on market opportunities. He expanded into home linen, focusing on the export market. Welspun also diversified into steel pipes for the oil and gas industry. Furthermore, Welspun has a focus on state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities. Welspun also acquired Christy, a UK-based towel manufacturer. Goenka has shown strategic leadership, steering Welspun World in many high-growth sectors.
