Alfred Gantner, also known as Fredy Gantner, was born in Baden, Switzerland, in 1968. He completed a banking apprenticeship and later earned an MBA from Brigham Young University in Utah. His early education and experiences set the foundation for his career in finance.

Gantner's career began with internships at Bankers Trust and Goldman Sachs. In 1996, he co-founded Partners Group with Marcel Erni and Urs Wietlisbach.
