Early Life
Alberto Bombassei was born in Vicenza, Italy, in October 1940. His father, Emilio Bombassei, co-founded Brembo in 1961. From a young age, Bombassei was involved in the family business, learning the intricacies of the automotive industry and the importance of innovation.
Rise to Success
Brembo's journey began as a small mechanical workshop, but a fortuitous event in 1964 changed its trajectory. When a truck carrying brake discs for Alfa Romeo overturned, Brembo was tasked with repairing the damaged discs. The company realized it could produce them and proposed the idea to Alfa Romeo, which accepted. This marked the beginning of Brembo's rise. In 1975, Enzo Ferrari chose Brembo to provide braking systems for his Formula 1 racing cars. This partnership propelled Brembo to the forefront of the automotive industry, establishing its reputation for high-performance braking systems. Bombassei became general manager of the company in 1976, managing director in 1984, and chairman in 1993.
Key Business Strategies
Bombassei's leadership was crucial in expanding Brembo's global footprint, opening facilities worldwide. His strategic vision included continuous innovation in materials and manufacturing processes, leading to groundbreaking products like the first aluminum brake caliper for cars in 1980. The company's focus on quality and performance solidified its partnerships with top automotive brands. Brembo's success is also linked to a strong family business model.
