Zhang Zhidong was born in 1972 in Dongguan, Guangdong, China. He showed a strong interest in computers and software development from a young age. He met Ma Huateng during his studies at Shenzhen University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in computer science in 1993. He later earned a master's degree in computer applications from South China University of Technology in 1996.
Rise to Success
In 1998, Zhang co-founded Tencent Holdings with Ma Huateng and others. As the Chief Technology Officer, Zhang was instrumental in designing the company's technical architecture and overseeing software development. His engineering leadership laid the foundation for Tencent's long-term scalability and innovation. He played a key role in developing QQ and later WeChat, which became one of the most comprehensive digital ecosystems globally.
