William Sydney Fisher was born in 1958 to Donald and Doris Fisher, the founders of Gap Inc. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated from Princeton University in 1979 with a bachelor's degree. He later earned an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business in 1984.
Rise to Success
After obtaining his MBA, Fisher began his career at Gap Inc. He served as the store director for Banana Republic and then as the general manager for Gap in Canada. He founded and led Gap Inc.'s International Division as its president, establishing operations in Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Germany during the 1980s and 1990s. In 2001, he established Manzanita Capital, a London-based private equity firm. He has been a director of Gap Inc. since 2009.
