Early Life and Education
Tyler Howard Winklevoss was born on August 21, 1981, in Southampton, New York, and raised in Greenwich, Connecticut. He attended Greenwich Country Day School and Brunswick School. Winklevoss studied classical piano for 12 years. He and his identical twin brother, Cameron Winklevoss, founded the crew program at their high school during their junior year. He attended Harvard College, where he majored in economics and graduated with an A.B. degree in 2004. During his time at Harvard, he was a member of the men's varsity crew, the Porcellian Club and the Hasty Pudding Club. In 2009, he began a graduate business study at the University of Oxford, completing an MBA in 2010.
Rise to Success
Winklevoss's career took a turn when he and his brother co-founded HarvardConnection (later ConnectU), a social networking site. This led to a legal dispute with Mark Zuckerberg, which resulted in a $65 million settlement. Following the settlement, the Winklevoss twins invested in Bitcoin in 2013, which significantly increased their wealth. In 2014, he co-founded Gemini, a cryptocurrency exchange, with his twin brother Cameron. Gemini quickly became a trusted platform for both individual and institutional investors.

Gemini, under Tyler's leadership, has focused on security, regulation, and compliance, setting itself apart in the crypto industry.
