Early Life
Todd Christopher's journey began in the world of hairdressing, a family tradition. His great-grandfather, grandfather, father, brother, six cousins, and seven uncles all pursued careers in the industry. Christopher, eager to strike out on his own, dropped out of high school at 17 to work in a cousin's salon.
Rise to Success
In 1987, Christopher founded Vogue International. Starting with selling Pro-Vitamin hair treatment capsules from the trunk of his car, he built the business over two decades, launching various hair care brands. In 2006, he released OGX, the brand that would become a major hit. In 2014, he sold a 49% stake to the Carlyle Group for $400 million. Two years later, in July 2016, Christopher and Carlyle sold the entire company to Johnson & Johnson for $3.3 billion.
Key Business Strategies
Christopher's success came from focusing on the customer. After a two-decade trial-and-error period, he released the OGX brand. OGX bottles were designed to be short and squat, catching consumers' attention.
