Early Life
Stewart Horejsi was born in Salina, Kansas, in 1938. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1962 with a degree in industrial management. After graduating, he took over his family's welding supply company, Brown Welding Supply LLC.
Rise to Success
Horejsi's financial success is closely tied to his investment in Berkshire Hathaway. Inspired by Warren Buffett, he began buying Berkshire Hathaway stock in 1980 for as little as $265 per share. Over the years, he steadily increased his stake, eventually holding a significant number of shares. Horejsi's patient, long-term investment strategy allowed his wealth to grow substantially.
Key Business Strategies
Horejsi's investment strategy mirrors that of Warren Buffett: buy high-quality businesses and hold them for the long term. His focus on Berkshire Hathaway exemplifies this approach, and he benefited greatly from the company's growth. He also established investment funds, further expanding his wealth through management fees and additional Berkshire Hathaway holdings.
Philanthropy
The Horejsi family is involved in significant philanthropic activities. They are known for supporting educational institutions and healthcare initiatives, particularly the University of Kansas and Mayo Clinic.
