Early Life

Stéphane Bancel was born in Marseille, France, on July 20, 1972. His parents were an engineer and a doctor. During his childhood, Bancel enjoyed science and math. He studied engineering at CentraleSupélec and biological engineering at the University of Minnesota, earning master's degrees from both institutions. He then earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Bancel's career began as a sales director at Eli Lilly and Company, later becoming the head of operations for Belgium.
