Ronald Steven Lauder was born in New York City on February 26, 1944. He is the son of Estée and Joseph Lauder, who founded the Estée Lauder cosmetics company. Lauder attended the Bronx High School of Science. He pursued higher education at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business. Furthering his studies, he attended the University of Paris and obtained a Certificate in International Business from the University of Brussels.
Rise to Success
Lauder began his career at Estée Lauder Companies in 1964, initially heading the international department. However, he chose a more varied path than his brother, Leonard Lauder, who spent decades running the family business. In 1984, he was appointed as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Affairs under President Ronald Reagan.
