Early Life

Rodney Cyril Sacks was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1949 or 1950. He comes from a Lithuanian-Jewish family and grew up during the apartheid era. Sacks earned a Bachelor of Laws degree and a postgraduate Higher Diploma in Tax Law from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.

Rise to Success

After graduating, Sacks became a lawyer and the youngest partner at Werksmans, a large South African law firm. In 1989, he moved to California and, along with Hilton Schlosberg, acquired Hansen Natural Corporation in 1990. The company was later renamed Monster Beverage Corporation. The launch of Monster Energy in 2002 was a pivotal moment, fueling explosive growth.

Key Business Strategies

Sacks focused on aggressive global expansion, entering over 100 countries through strategic partnerships. The company used marketing strategies that targeted youth culture and extreme sports to build its brand. A partnership with The Coca-Cola Company in 2015 further expanded the global reach of Monster Beverage.

Philanthropy

Sacks supports charities focused on underprivileged children and is a key funder of a school for girls in India. Additionally, he is a trustee for Monster Energy Cares EMEA, which supports charitable causes and matches employee donations.
