Her family's industrial legacy began with Karl Ludwig Reimann in 1828, who joined Johann Adam Benckiser's chemical manufacturing firm. She is the oldest biological daughter of Albert Reimann from his illegitimate relationship. In 1965, Albert adopted Renate along with her siblings.
