Rajju Shroff, born Rajnikant Devidas Shroff in Kutch, Gujarat, India, in 1933, comes from a family of entrepreneurs. He pursued a degree in Chemistry from Bombay University.
Rise to Success
Shroff's entrepreneurial journey began in 1969 when he established UPL Limited in Mumbai. He pioneered the manufacturing of Red phosphorus in India. Under his leadership, UPL has grown into one of the top agrochemical companies in the world. His company acquired Arysta LifeSciences in 2018 for $4.2 billion, making it a key player in the industry.
Key Business Strategies
Shroff focused on introducing innovative products and expanding UPL's operations to over 130 countries. His strategy included acquisitions and a focus on crop protection solutions, which has been key to the company's growth. He also established a novel process of manufacturing mercury salts in a plant in the U.K. and was paid a royalty for it by the British Company.
