Rajinder Gupta was born on January 2, 1959, in Bathinda, Punjab, India. His early life was marked by financial constraints. He left formal education at the 9th grade due to family reasons. Despite the challenges, he began his entrepreneurial journey by working menial jobs, including making candles and cement pipes, earning a meager Rs 30 daily. This humble start laid the groundwork for his future success.
Rise to Success
In 1985, Gupta founded Abhishek Industries, a fertilizer manufacturing venture. He demonstrated remarkable business skills by diversifying into various sectors. A turning point came in 1991 with the establishment of a textile mill, marking his entry into the textile industry. Under Gupta's strategic leadership, the Trident Group expanded rapidly, achieving significant growth. Today, the Trident Group is a diversified conglomerate with a market capitalization in the billions.
Key Business Strategies
Gupta's key strategies included diversification into textiles, paper, and chemicals, and expanding operations across Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. The company focused on exporting its products globally, with two-thirds of its revenue from exports to over 150 countries. Trident is a global player in home textiles and paper manufacturing, supplying to major international retail giants. The company has also focused on sustainability through renewable energy and water conservation measures.
Philanthropy
Rajinder Gupta is actively involved in philanthropic ventures. He made a significant philanthropic contribution of Rs 21 crore to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) in August 2024. This contribution supports the Sri Venkateswara Nithya Annaprasadam Trust, providing free meals to devotees.
