Rajinder Gupta

Early Life

Rajinder Gupta was born on January 2, 1959, in Bathinda, Punjab. His early life was marked by financial hardships, as his father was a cotton trader. Due to these constraints, he had to leave school in the ninth grade at the age of 14. He then worked various jobs to support his family, including making cement pipes and candles, earning a meager 30 rupees a day.

Rise to Success

In 1985, Gupta embarked on his entrepreneurial journey by establishing Abhishek Industries, a fertilizer manufacturing venture, with an initial investment of INR 6.5 crore. He entered the textile sector in 1991 with a yarn manufacturing unit, which later formed the foundation of the Trident Group. Under his leadership, the Trident Group expanded rapidly, achieving a growth rate of over 30% annually. Today, it is one of India's largest yarn spinners, a leading global producer of terry towels, and the world's largest producer of paper made from wheat straw. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2007 for his contributions to trade and industry.

Key Business Strategies

Gupta's business acumen is highlighted by his ability to identify opportunities in diverse industries. The Trident Group diversified into textiles, paper, chemicals, and power generation. He was also known for maintaining strong relations with successive governments. The company exports to over 150 countries.

Philanthropy

Beyond business, Gupta is involved in philanthropy through the Trident Foundation. His initiatives include the Takshashila Centre for Excellence, providing training and employment opportunities, and support for healthcare and education.
