Early Life
Pavel Baudiš was born in Prague, Czech Republic, on May 15, 1960. He graduated from the Prague University of Chemical Technology with a degree in Information Technology. Before starting his entrepreneurial journey, Baudiš worked as a Graphics Specialist at the Mathematical Research Institute.
Rise to Success
In 1988, Baudiš wrote his first antivirus program after receiving a floppy disk with the "Vienna" computer virus. In 1989, he co-founded Alwil with Eduard Kučera, which later became Avast Software. Faced with intense competition, Baudiš and Kučera adopted a freemium model, offering a basic version of their antivirus software for free. This strategy helped Avast become the largest anti-virus firm globally, securing over 400 million users and culminating in a successful IPO in 2018.
