Early Life
Paolo Bulgari was born in 1937 in Rome, Italy. He is the grandson of Sotirios Bulgari, the founder of the renowned luxury brand Bulgari. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in the world of jewelry and craftsmanship, Paolo developed a passion for design and entrepreneurship from an early age. He has two brothers, Gianni and Nicola Bulgari.
Rise to Success
Paolo Bulgari joined the company at 18. He became Chairman of Bulgari in 1984. In 2011, the Bulgari family sold its controlling stake to French luxury conglomerate LVMH.
Key Business Strategies
Paolo's career has been marked by both success and controversy. In 2013, the Bulgari office in Rome was raided by the Guardia di Finanza (tax police) due to tax evasion allegations. In 2015, Paolo and Nicola Bulgari, along with others, were ordered to stand trial on tax evasion charges, which they denied. The trial concluded in 2018 with their acquittal.
Philanthropy
Paolo Bulgari established the Paolo Bulgari Foundation in November 2019. The foundation supports educational regeneration and professional training in some peripheral neighborhoods of Rome.
