Palmer Freeman Luckey was born on September 19, 1992, in Long Beach, California. He was homeschooled by his mother, which allowed him to pursue his interest in electronics and engineering from a young age. He took courses at community colleges and later attended California State University, Long Beach, before dropping out to focus on his entrepreneurial endeavors.
Rise to Success
Luckey's career began with his fascination with virtual reality. At age 16, he started building his own VR headsets. In 2012, at the age of 19, he founded Oculus VR, where he designed the Oculus Rift, a virtual reality headset credited with reviving the VR industry. The Oculus Rift was initially funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign, raising over $2.4 million. Oculus VR was acquired by Facebook in March 2014 for $2 billion. Following his departure from Facebook in 2017, Luckey founded Anduril Industries, a defense technology company specializing in autonomous systems.
