Early Life
Mark Langhorn Coombs was born in April 1960. He received his education at Dulwich College and St John's College, Cambridge, where he earned a law degree.
Rise to Success
Coombs began his career in 1983 at Grindlays Bank, working in the Latin American department. In 1998, he founded Ashmore as a division within the company. He then led a management buyout of Ashmore in 1999, gaining full control of the company. In 2006, Coombs spearheaded the initial public offering (IPO) of Ashmore, which solidified its position in the financial industry. He further expanded Ashmore's reach by acquiring money manager Emerging Market Management.
