Early Life and Education
Lin Jianhua was born in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, China, in October 1955. During the Cultural Revolution, he taught at a school in Inner Mongolia. He later earned a doctorate in chemistry from Peking University in 1986. From 1988 to 1993, he pursued further studies at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Iowa State University, and Ames Laboratory.
Rise to Success
Lin Jianhua's career took a significant turn in 2003 when he co-founded Hangzhou First Applied Material with his wife, Zhang Hong. Initially focused on packaging films, the company quickly expanded its product offerings to include backplane materials and other essential components for the solar power industry. Previously, he was the president of Chongqing University from December 2010 to June 2013, and the president of Zhejiang University from June 2013 to February 2015. He was also honored as a Distinguished Young Scholar by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 1997.
