In 1989, Li founded the Yinong Network Chemical Fiber Factory, producing polyester fiber cloth. As the industry shifted, he founded the Zhejiang Rongsheng Holding Group, a modern business group specializing in petrochemicals, chemical fibers, real estate, and financial investments. Under Li's leadership, the company grew into a significant player in the petrochemical industry. In 2020, Rongsheng achieved a milestone by becoming the first private oil refiner in China to export refined oil products.

Li's success is attributed to several key strategies. He identified opportunities in the polyester fiber market and expanded his operations strategically. This partnership involved Saudi Aramco acquiring a 10% stake in Rongsheng Petrochemical for $3.4 billion.
