Early Life
Kenneth Lo was born in October 1938 in China and moved to Hong Kong at a young age. His family initially lived in a refugee camp, where they survived on meal coupons. At age 14, he began working in his parents' garment factory, setting the foundation for his future in the textile industry.
Rise to Success
In 1970, Kenneth Lo co-founded Crystal Group with his wife, Yvonne. Starting as a small sweater factory in Kowloon, the company grew over the decades to become one of Asia's largest garment manufacturers. The company now operates over 20 factories across China and Southeast Asia, employing around 80,000 people.
Key Business Strategies
Crystal Group's success is attributed to its strategic partnerships with major global brands. The company manufactures clothing for brands like Uniqlo, H&M, Levi's, Marks & Spencer, Victoria's Secret, Abercrombie & Fitch, Nike, Adidas and Puma. This has allowed the company to grow its revenue significantly, with an annual turnover exceeding $2.5 billion. In 2008, Lo stepped down from day-to-day operations, but he remains involved with the company as chairman.
Philanthropy
Kenneth Lo supports education projects to help the poor in China and Hong Kong, believing in the transformative power of education. He has also donated funds to student bursaries and the Institute for Child Study at the University of Toronto.
