Early Life and Education
John W. Stanton, born in 1955, is a lifelong resident of the Seattle area. He attended Newport High School in Bellevue, Washington, and later pursued higher education at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts/Science degree. Stanton furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Rise to Success
Stanton's career is deeply rooted in the wireless telecommunications industry. He began his journey as one of the first employees at McCaw Cellular Communications in 1982, where he eventually became the Chief Operating Officer and Vice Chairman. McCaw Cellular grew to become the largest wireless carrier in the U.S. at the time. In the late 1980s, Stanton began acquiring rural wireless properties, leading to the formation of Western Wireless Corporation in 1994. He served as the CEO and Chairman of Western Wireless through 2005. He then formed Trilogy Partnership, a private equity fund, in 2006, which invests in early-stage growth opportunities within the wireless ecosystem. Stanton also served as Chairman and CEO of VoiceStream Wireless, which was renamed T-Mobile USA after being acquired by Deutsche Telekom. In 2004, he was inducted into the Wireless Hall of Fame. From 2008 until 2013 he was director and then chairman of Clearwire.

He has chaired or co-chaired various organizations, including the Business Partnership for Early Learning, Year Up of Puget Sound, and the United Way of King County campaign. He currently serves on the board of the Institute for Health Metrics Evaluation. Stanton has demonstrated a commitment to supporting Little League programs.
