Early Life and Education
John W. Stanton was born in 1955. A lifelong resident of the Seattle area, Stanton attended Newport High School in Bellevue, Washington. He earned an undergraduate degree from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, and later obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Rise to Success
Stanton's career began in the early 1980s at McCaw Cellular Communications. He then founded Western Wireless Corporation in 1992 and served as its CEO and chairman until 2005. During his tenure, Western Wireless expanded significantly. From 1995 to 2003, Stanton also served as chairman and CEO of VoiceStream Wireless, which later became T-Mobile USA after being acquired by Deutsche Telekom. He was inducted into the Wireless Hall of Fame in 2004.
