Early Life and Education
Jahm Najafi was born in Iran in March 1963. In 1975, he and his older brother relocated to the United States. He earned a Bachelor's degree in political science and economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master's degree in business economics from Harvard University in 1986.
Rise to Success
Najafi's career began at Salomon Brothers on Wall Street, later becoming part of Citigroup. He served as CEO of Pivotal Private Equity and partner and COO of The Pivotal Group from 1990 to 2002, focusing on commercial property acquisitions. In 2002, he founded The Najafi Companies, a private equity firm investing with internally generated capital. His most lucrative investment was a $100 million bet on domain registrar Network Solutions in 2003, which he sold for $800 million in 2007. In 2009, he acquired a 10% stake in the Phoenix Suns.
