Jacques Merceron-Vicat was born on March 22, 1938, and holds French citizenship. His roots are deeply intertwined with the cement industry, as his grandfather, Louis Vicat, is credited with inventing artificial cement in 1812. Though the patent wasn't secured at the time, the family's legacy in the construction materials sector was solidified when Joseph Vicat, Louis's son, established the Vicat cement company in 1853.

Jacques Merceron-Vicat began his career within the Vicat group in 1962, after graduating as a civil engineer from ESTP. In 1984, he became Chairman and CEO, steering Vicat through further international expansion and restructuring.
