Early Life and Education
J. Christopher Reyes was born in Washington, D.C., in 1953. He is the eldest son of Joseph A. Reyes and Frances Marie Reyes. His family has a Hispanic paternal and Irish maternal heritage, and he grew up in a large family with seven brothers and one sister. Reyes earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the University of Maryland in 1975.
Rise to Success
In 1974, Reyes, along with his father and brother Jude, started their business journey by acquiring a small Schlitz beer distributorship in Spartanburg, South Carolina, for $740,000. They aggressively acquired beer distribution businesses and brands, expanding Reyes Holdings to over 130 operations since 1976. In April 1998, the firm expanded beyond beer distribution with the purchase of the Martin-Brower Company, a dedicated McDonald's distribution business operating primarily in the US and 18 international locations. In 2015, the company expanded into Coca-Cola production and distribution with the acquisition of Great Lakes Coca-Cola Bottling in Chicago and the Midwest.
