Early Life
Professor Georg Nemetschek, born in 1934, laid the foundation for his impressive career by studying civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich. He showed an early fascination with computers and software, which would later influence his professional path. His interest was sparked by exposure to early computing systems, which solidified his vision for integrating technology into the construction sector.
Rise to Success
In 1963, Georg Nemetschek founded his engineering firm, Ingenieurbüro für das Bauwesen, in Munich. Recognizing the potential of software solutions in the late 1960s, he began developing software for the construction industry, even before personal computers were widely available. This early adoption of technology proved successful, leading to the development of innovative software for structural engineering. In 1977, the company released its program Statik 97/77 for civil engineering. Nemetschek's engineering firm grew to become a leading software vendor in Germany. The company went public in 1999.
Key Business Strategies
Nemetschek's key strategy involved early investments in software development and a focus on computer-aided engineering (CAE). He was among the first to use programs to calculate finite elements for complex structures. The company expanded internationally in the 1980s. Nemetschek also strategically acquired companies to strengthen its position in the market.
Philanthropy
Georg Nemetschek is dedicated to philanthropy. In 2007, he and his family established the Nemetschek Foundation, which supports projects in education, science, and research, among other areas. In 2020, he founded the Nemetschek Innovation Foundation to support research and development in the construction industry, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence.
