Early Life
Filip Balcaen was born on February 9, 1960. His father, Paul Balcaen, founded Balta in 1964, a company that would become one of Belgium's largest carpet makers. Filip began his career in the flooring industry in 1984, working in various positions at the Balta Group.
Rise to Success
Filip Balcaen became the CEO and Chairman of Balta in 1990. Under his leadership, Balta expanded into an international group specializing in floor and wall coverings. In 2004, he sold Balta to a British investment fund, while retaining a minority stake. Following the sale, Filip founded IVC, a manufacturer of vinyl tiles, which he later sold to U.S.-based Mohawk Industries in 2015 for approximately $1 billion.
