Early Life
Fan Daidi was born in a rural village in the Shaanxi province of China. Her father was a rural doctor. She excelled academically, earning bachelor's and master's degrees in chemistry from Northwest University in the 1980s. She furthered her education at the East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai, where she earned a PhD in biochemical engineering in 1994. This achievement made her the first woman in modern Chinese history to hold a PhD in biochemical engineering.
Rise to Success
After graduating, Fan returned to Northwest University as a teacher and researcher. She invented and patented recombinant collagen in 2000. Fan and her husband, Yan Jianya, founded Giant Biogene in the same year, leveraging her research to create collagen-based skincare products. The company's signature product, a high-end facial mask containing recombinant collagen, became highly popular. Giant Biogene went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in November 2022.
Key Business Strategies
Fan Daidi's success is attributed to her innovation in the skincare sector, particularly her work on recombinant collagen. Giant Biogene's business model focuses on research, development, and the commercialization of skincare products. Fan stepped down as executive director of Giant Biogene in July 2023, but continues to serve as the chief science officer.
