Daniela Amodei

Early Life and Education

Daniela Amodei was born in 1987 and grew up in San Francisco, California. Her father was a leather craftsman, and her mother was a project manager for libraries. Daniela attended Lowell High School and graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, Santa Cruz, with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.

Career Path

Amodei's career began in global health and politics, working at the IRIS Center at the University of Maryland and later in a successful congressional campaign. She transitioned to the tech industry in 2013, joining Stripe as an early employee and a founding recruiter. During her time at Stripe, she also worked as a Risk Program Manager and Risk Manager. In 2018, Amodei moved to OpenAI as Vice President of Safety and Policy. In 2021, she co-founded Anthropic with her brother, Dario Amodei, and other former OpenAI employees.

In August 2017, Daniela Amodei married Holden Karnofsky, co-founder of Open Philanthropy. They have a son.
