Early Life
Colin Huang was born on January 1, 1980, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. His parents were factory workers. He attended Hangzhou Foreign Language School and excelled in mathematics and science. At 18, he studied computer science at Chu Kuchen Honors College of Zhejiang University. During his freshman year, he was selected as a fellow at the Melton Foundation. He graduated with a master's degree in computer science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2004.
Rise to Success
Huang began his career with internships at Google and Microsoft. He then worked as an engineer at Google in the United States and China. In 2007, he founded the e-commerce site Oku, which he sold in 2010. His most significant venture began in 2015 when he founded Pinduoduo, an e-commerce platform focused on a group-buying model. Pinduoduo quickly became one of China's largest e-commerce platforms. The company went public in July 2018, raising $1.6 billion. In 2022, Huang expanded his ventures by launching Temu in the US.
