Early Life and Education
Byunghoon Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, on November 5, 1988. In 2007, he began studying business administration at Yonsei University. During his time at university, he also spent time in California as an exchange student. It was there that he began developing mobile apps.
Rise to Success
Kim founded APR Corp in 2014. Originally launched under the name Aprilskin, the business quickly expanded beyond cosmetics, venturing into skincare, supplements, and beauty-tech. Its flagship brand, Medicube, gained global recognition for its at-home facial devices, such as the AGE-R Booster series. In 2024, APR went public.
Key Business Strategies
Kim's success is attributed to a product-first and data-driven approach. He built APR's in-house R&D team and manufacturing line, which gave the company full control over product development. The company has also focused on social media campaigns and direct-to-consumer infrastructure, and has expanded globally, including in the U.S., Southeast Asia, and Japan.
