Bandi Parthasaradhi Reddy was born on March 6, 1954, in Kandukuru village, Khammam district, Telangana, India. He came from a rural background, with his family owning agricultural lands. He obtained his Master of Science degree in organic chemistry and a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry from Osmania University in Hyderabad. Reddy's career took a significant turn in 1993 when he founded the Hetero Group of Companies. Drawing from his experience at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, he started with an API manufacturing facility. He then expanded it into a multinational enterprise specializing in generic drugs and antiretrovirals. His focus on research and development, with over 50% of early efforts dedicated to innovating APIs, particularly for anti-retroviral drugs to combat HIV, set the stage for Hetero's rapid growth.
