Early Life
Acharya Balkrishna was born on August 4, 1972, in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India, to Nepalese immigrants. His childhood was marked by poverty and hardship. He spent his early years in Nepal and later returned to India to study at Khanpur Gurukul in Haryana, where he met Ramdev. His early life was marked by a deep interest in yoga and Ayurveda, which he pursued diligently from a young age.
Rise to Success
In 1995, Balkrishna co-founded Divya Yoga Mandir Trust with Ramdev and Acharya Karamveer, an organization aimed at promoting yoga and Ayurveda. In 2006, he co-founded Patanjali Ayurved, a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company. Patanjali Ayurved quickly gained popularity and became a household name in India. Despite working long hours, Balkrishna does not take a salary from the company. His wealth comes from his significant stake in Patanjali Ayurved.
Key Business Strategies
Patanjali Ayurved's success is attributed to a business model focused on Ayurveda and promoting traditional Indian practices. The company's strategy included leveraging the popularity of Baba Ramdev, offering affordable products, and expanding its product range. Patanjali has also focused on expanding its oil palm plantation to reduce the country's dependence on edible oil imports.
Philanthropy
Balkrishna is involved in various philanthropic activities, including promoting education and healthcare through the trusts he co-founded. He has also initiated projects to drive agricultural transformation through organic practices and ensure equitable access to nutritious food.
