Early Life
Wilma Tisch (née Stein) was born on June 25, 1927, in Long Branch, New Jersey, and grew up in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Her father, Joseph Stein, was a journalist who later worked in the automotive industry, while her mother, Rose Liebesman Stein, was the daughter of Lithuanian Jewish immigrants. She attended public schools and graduated from Skidmore College in 1948 with a B.S. in economics and a minor in accounting.
Rise to Success
Wilma Tisch's career is inextricably linked to the Loews Corporation, which was built by her late husband, Laurence Tisch, and his brother Preston. Laurence, with his brother Bob, acquired Loews Theatres in 1959, which became the foundation for the modern-day Loews Corporation. The company diversified into insurance, hotels, energy, and packaging.
Following Laurence's death in 2003, Wilma, along with her sister-in-law, Joan Tisch, played a key role in managing the Tisch family fortune. Wilma holds a significant stake in Loews Corporation.
