Early Life and Education
William P. Lauder was born on April 11, 1960, in New York City. He is the grandson of Estée Lauder, the founder of The Estée Lauder Companies. Lauder graduated from The Trinity School in New York City in 1978. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1983.
Rise to Success
Lauder began his career at The Estée Lauder Companies in 1986 as the Regional Marketing Director for Clinique in the New York metropolitan area. He progressed through various leadership roles, including President of Origins and Clinique. From 2004 to 2009, Lauder served as the Chief Executive Officer, and he was Executive Chairman from 2009 to 2024. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors. During his tenure as CEO, he focused on strategic initiatives amid economic challenges, expanding the company's international presence and distribution channels.

Lauder's business strategies have focused on brand diversification and global expansion. He played a key role in creating the Origins brand in 1990. He also led the launch of Clinique's Simple Hair Care System.
