Early Life and Education
Todd Lawrence Boehly was born on September 20, 1973, in Bethesda, Maryland. His grandparents emigrated from Germany. He attended Landon School in Bethesda, graduating in 1991. Boehly went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance from the College of William & Mary in 1996. While at William & Mary, he studied at the London School of Economics.
Rise to Success
Boehly began his career at Credit Suisse First Boston and J.H. Whitney & Company. In 2001, he joined Guggenheim Partners and launched its credit investing business, eventually becoming president. During his tenure, he helped build Guggenheim's credit business to $60 billion. In 2015, Boehly co-founded Eldridge Industries, a holding company with investments in various sectors including finance, media, sports, and real estate. Eldridge Industries has grown to oversee an estimated $72-74 billion in assets, with over 100 companies.

Boehly's business strategy involves active involvement in the companies he invests in. He focuses on long-term value creation and leverages insurance operations for deal financing. Boehly led a consortium that acquired Chelsea Football Club in 2022 for £4.25 billion (approximately $5.4 billion). His approach combines financial acumen with an interest in pop culture assets.
Philanthropy
Boehly and his wife Katie founded the Boehly Center for Excellence in Finance at the College of William & Mary in 2014. They have also supported epilepsy research, the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
