Early Life
Theo Albrecht Jr. was born in Bremen, West Germany, in 1950. He is the son of Theo Albrecht Sr., who co-founded the Aldi supermarket chain with his brother Karl in 1946. Growing up, Albrecht Jr. was immersed in an environment that emphasized frugality and operational precision, which were key principles of the family's retail business. The Albrecht family valued privacy, a tradition that Theo Jr. has maintained throughout his life.
Rise to Success

His brother, Berthold, also inherited shares; however, after Berthold's death in 2012, Theo Jr. became the main inheritor. This inheritance included stakes in Aldi Nord and Trader Joe's, the American grocery chain acquired by the family in 1979.
