Early Life
Terry Taylor was born in 1951. His father, Warren Taylor, opened a used Ford lot in Daytona Beach after serving in the Marine Corps. Terry began working in the family's dealership in his teens. He was made vice president of the company at the age of 23. Taylor's early experiences laid the foundation for his future success in the automotive industry.
Rise to Success
Taylor's career took off when he began expanding his automotive business. He demonstrated a strong aptitude for recognizing opportunities for growth and consolidation within the industry. In the 1990s, he began building his empire through acquisitions and strategic management. The company he founded, Automotive Management Services Inc. (AMSI), manages services, including advertising, for his separately owned dealerships. The company employs 200 in West Palm Beach.
Key Business Strategies
Taylor's success can be attributed to several key business strategies, including acquiring and managing a large portfolio of dealerships, offering equity to dealership managers, and maintaining a low public profile. The company has grown to include over 120 dealerships across the United States. Taylor's approach involves giving his dealership managers equity in the dealerships, around 25%.
Philanthropy
Terry and his late wife, Cynthia, were philanthropic, supporting local causes. They were inducted into the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County's Admirals Club for those who donate $50,000 a year, and to the Dream Makers Society for million-dollar donors.
