Early Life
Stephen McConnell Case was born on August 21, 1958, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His parents were Daniel and Carol Case. Daniel was a lawyer and Carol an elementary school teacher. He graduated from Punahou School in 1976 and Williams College in 1980 with a degree in political science.
Rise to Success
Steve Case began his career in marketing, working at Procter & Gamble and Pizza Hut. In 1985, he co-founded Quantum Computer Services, which later became America Online (AOL). Under Case's leadership, AOL pioneered innovations such as chat rooms, instant messaging, and easy-to-use online portals, driving the worldwide adoption of the internet. By the late 1990s, AOL had more than 25 million subscribers and a market capitalization exceeding $200 billion. In 2000, he negotiated the merger with Time Warner, the largest merger in business history at the time.
