Sarah Humphreys Atkins is part of the family that founded Tamko Building Products. Her grandfather, E.L. Craig, started the roofing business in 1944 at the age of 69. The company began in an old streetcar barn in Joplin, Missouri.
Rise to Success
Under the leadership of her family, Tamko grew to become the fourth-largest manufacturer of roofing shingles in the United States. In 2019, the Humphreys family sold a 25% stake in the business to the Carlyle Group, a private equity firm. Sarah and her brother David, along with their respective families, retained the remaining 75% ownership.
