Early Life
Robert Gerald Miller was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in July 1943. Not much is known about his early childhood. Miller graduated from Rider University. To pay for college, he worked at a snack bar and as a DJ.
Rise to Success
In 1968, Miller founded Future Electronics. He built the company into a global leader in electronics distribution. In 1976, Miller bought out his partner for $500,000. Future Electronics grew into the world's third-largest electronics distributor. Miller grew the company to 5,200 employees and generating more than $5 billion in annual revenue.
Key Business Strategies
Future Electronics focused on organic expansion, providing good service to customers and suppliers. Miller rarely grants interviews or attends public ceremonies. In April 2024, he sold Future Electronics to Taiwan-based WT Microelectronics in a $3.8 billion deal.
Philanthropy
Miller is an avid supporter of the Children's Miracle Network, United Way, Janus Youth Programs, March of Dimes, Providence Child Center, and the Orthopedic Research Program at St. Vincent Medical Center. In 1999, he established the Robert G. Miller Endowed Scholarship Fund at Portland State University for students in the food industry. He also supports the cryonics-focused Alcor Life Extension Foundation.
