Early Life
Robert G. Miller was born in Montreal, Canada in July 1943. Little is known about his early life and childhood, but he has roots in the electronics component industry. He worked at a snack bar and as a DJ to help pay for college. He graduated from Rider University.
Rise to Success
In 1968, Miller founded Future Electronics, a company that would grow into the world's third-largest electronics distributor. He built the company into a global electronics distribution powerhouse, growing it from a small startup into a multi-billion dollar enterprise. In 2024, he sold Future Electronics to Taiwan-based WT Microelectronics in a $3.8 billion deal.
Key Business Strategies
Miller's key business strategy involved expanding Future Electronics' reach. He made major investments in Asia, including China, Korea, India, Japan, and Vietnam. He also focused on employee well-being, and implemented policies to enable employees to live a healthy lifestyle. He also personally interviewed middle-level managers, and has been known to give impromptu encouragement speeches.
Philanthropy
Miller has contributed to various disaster relief efforts. He has also donated to three housing projects for the homeless in the Philippines and contributed to disaster relief in Haiti, China, and Japan. He also has an interest in cryonics.
